In the region, Mangistauenergomunai LLP provides technological maintenance of the power grids of Mangistaumunaigas JSC at the Kalamkas and Zhetybai fields. Kazakhstan's power industry has recently been going through a period of active modernisation. This process has fully extended to electrical substations, where most of the equipment is outdated both physically and technologically. In 2010–2014, with the support of Mangistaumunaigas JSC, Mangistauenergomunai LLP used its own resources to commission 4 new-generation substations with integrated systems for control and diagnostics of primary equipment, relay protection, emergency automation, communications, electricity metering, and recording of emergency and normal operating modes.
At more than 20 6 kV distribution points, modernisation was carried out by replacing oil circuit breakers with vacuum circuit breakers and replacing relay protection devices with new-generation microprocessor protection.
Since November 2014, the introduction of the dispatch and process control system and the automated electricity metering system at the 35/6 kV substations and 6 kV switchgear under stages I and II, together with the construction of the administrative and amenity building of the operational dispatch service, has been fully completed and commissioned following pilot industrial testing. A ceremonial opening of the operational dispatch service was held, with invited guests.
In a short time, operating the dispatch and process control system and the automated metering system at the 35/6 kV substations and 6 kV switchgear at the Kalamkas field has made it possible to continuously monitor and control the current operating mode in real time, and to plan and forecast the modes of the power supply network.
In addition, analysis of previous emergencies based on recorder data has identified equipment requiring additional preventive maintenance or unscheduled repair. Downtime of core oil production facilities has fallen thanks to faster elimination of faults in power supply networks. It has become possible to analyse an incident to locate the fault quickly, especially in cable networks. The 35 kV and 6 kV power circuit breakers are controlled remotely, and the condition of the equipment in each cell at the 35/6 kV substations and 6 kV distribution points is monitored.
At present, 20 facilities at the Kalamkas field have been commissioned under stages I and II using the operational information complex and SCADA, including:
— 35/6 kV step-down substations: 5 facilities; — 6 kV switchgear: 14 facilities; — the dispatch centre of the operational dispatch service of PES-1.
